Colossi of Memnon

The Colossi of Memnon have stood as guardians of Luxor for centuries. These two massive blocks of quartzite sandstone, each towering at a height of 18 meters (60 feet) and weighing an impressive 720 tons, bear the likeness of Pharaoh Amenhotep III (1386-1350). The colossi endured substantial damage from a powerful earthquake in 27 BC, but they were meticulously reconstructed in 199 AD. During the Greco-Roman period, these statues gained widespread fame, primarily due to the phenomenon known as ‘The Vocal Memnon.’ At times, they appeared to ‘sing’ at dawn, a sound actually produced by the wind passing through the statues.

Qaitbay Citadel

The Imperial Egypt Tours is an important Islamic landmark that carries the enduring spirit of the Alexandria Lighthouse. Constructed in 1477 by Sultan Al-Ashraf Sayf Al-Din Qa’it Bay, it stands on the same site that once held the legendary lighthouse of Alexandria. The citadel was built using salvaged stones from the wrecked lighthouse, which was the third-longest surviving ancient wonder until its destruction by a series of earthquakes between 956 AD and 1323 AD.
